How do I view psychotherapy?
For me, the essence of therapy is to engage in a process aimed at change together. Sometimes I compare it to going on a road trip together. You are the driver, the one who decides where we are going, although the destination may change or be defined along the way. I, as a clinical psychologist, will be sitting in the passenger seat next to you with a road map. I will make suggestions about which roads we can take to get to our destination. You, however, are at the wheel, making the decisions. It is a journey where you may encounter obstacles and sometimes fall and get up again, but I will always be by your side.
What does therapy look like?
During the first few sessions, we will get to know each other, explore your specific questions and identify possible directions for our further course. Only when you feel comfortable with this will we continue our process together. I find it important to create a space where you can be yourself and be heard. There is room for your unique story without judgement.
My values within therapy
My starting point for therapy are the following values:
-
Dialogue
Systematic discussion is essential throughout our process, but only you can decide whether to try something or take a particular step. -
Tailored
I always adapt my approach to your needs, questions and expectations. -
You as the expert
Your experience is at the centre of our conversations. You are the only expert on your life. -
Person in context
Our relationships with others are characterised by interaction and mutual influence. Your experiences are viewed from your unique embeddedness in your social context. -
Attention to sources of strength
In addition to the things that are difficult, we also pay attention to the things that are going well, your strengths and the sources of strength that you experience. -
Evidence-based
I always start from solid theories and scientific evidence. I regularly attend training courses and study days on a variety of topics. -
Confidentiality
As a psychologist I am bound by professional confidentiality. I will always treat what you tell me in confidence and will not disclose it to others without your permission. -
Involvement
You can expect me to be involved and to actively address your questions or concerns, also outside of our sessions. -
Authenticity
I will be true to myself and my professional values in my interactions with you. I strive to create a trusting and empathic therapeutic environment.
